Band Organ Arrangements of "Nutcracker Suite"
By Tom Meijer

Nine years ago I arranged the full score of "Nutcracker Suite" (more
than one and a half hour of music!) for a 95-key Verbeeck organ in
the Hall of Halls, Japan. The music was used for a special ballet
performance, in which the organ accompanied the dancers.

Tchaikovsky is one of my favourite classic composers; his music is
both bright, brilliant and dramatic. Many pieces fit the character
of a mechanical organ very well. Another famous composition is his
"1812 Overture", that I have arranged for various large organs.
It can be heard on the CD of the 125-key Gaudin-Verbeeck concert
organ in the Milhous collection (this instrument has the appropriate
large chimes that also appear in the original score).

More Tchaikovsky compositions that I have arranged are the waltzes
from "Piano Concerto No. 1", and "Sleeping Beauty" (the latter also
for the Wurlitzer 165 scale). From other arrangers I have heard the
"Slavonic March", "Capriccio Italian" and pieces from "Swan Lake".
The "Waltz of the Flowers" is on many European organs.

Musical regards from Holland,
Tom Meijer
