Roll-Playing Electronic Player Organs: Hammond
By Dick Hack

In addition to the player organs mentioned on the MMD, there is
also the 1938 Hammond model "BA" organ which plays an Aeolian-Skinner
roll. I guess this is more electro-mechanical than electronic, since
it uses mechanical tone generators, but I guess it still fits into
this category. There were 210 of these made.

The roll plays 12 pedal notes, 58 swell notes, and 47 great notes.
It does not have automatic expression or registration. Registration
is done manually with preset switches to the left of the keyboard,
or by the drawbars.

Although the organ can be time-consuming to restore, the pneumatic work
is comparable to rebuilding a player piano, and rebuilding kits are
available with replacement filter capacitors, along with special oil
and other parts, from several places on line.

I have a set of 90 recut rolls in stock for the Hammond "BA" (but no
organs to sell).
