Cylinder Music Box Repair in NYC Area
By Don Caine

In response to Bob Fitterman's inquiry about a repair person for his
Bremond Organocleide, there are several highly reputable restorers in
the New York/New Jersey area. I know and trust implicitly all three of
those listed below.

However, please note that we music box repair people are a fairly rare
commodity, a dying breed if you will. Ergo, wait time for repair
service could range widely from six months to several years. Being a
bit further away from the City may (or may not) relate to a faster
turn-around time and a shorter separation from your cherished music
box.

I'm sure all three can give you a guesstimate of cost and the expected
turn-around time in their shop. However, sight unseen, it really is
impossible for anyone to tell you precisely what it will cost to
repair/restore your musical piece. Non-functioning musical mechanisms,
are very much like cars that won't start. The lights won't come on so
we install a new battery. Now the lights come on, but the car still
won't start. Now that the electrical system has been restored, we see
that the gas gauge reads empty; so we add gas. But it still doesn't
start, so we start looking at other items that might cause the car not
to work. Even after we find what the problems were and get the car
started, we may find that it runs very rough. Then we need to pursue
other adjustments to different components.

Here are the three. The closest geographically is probably Gerry
Wright at Rita Ford Music Boxes, 1253 Springfield Ave., Suite 304, New
Providence, NJ 07974 (Recently relocated from 65th Street & Madison
Avenue, NYC). Phone 212-535-6717. http://www.ritafordmuisicboxes.com

North of Syracuse is Nancy Fratti, Nancy Fratti Music Boxes, Canastota,
N.Y. Phone 315-684-9977. http://www.nancyfrattimusicboxes.com

In New Jersey: Al Meekins, Meekins Music Box Company, Collingswood, NJ
08108. Phone: 856-858-6421 http://www.antiquemusicboxes.com

Please let me know if I may be of any service to you in identification,
repair, or parts for music boxes.
