Introduction - Diane DeTar and Wayne Johnston
By Diane deTar

Since our original letter of introduction in 1997, many things have
changed in our business, some due to the economy and others just
because of the advancement of the CD and MIDI systems. Hence, we would
like to re-introduce ourselves to the readers of the MMDigest. We live
in San Diego County, California.

Together Wayne and I are a full service piano business. I have been
rebuilding pianos and player pianos for 35 years, specializing in
reproducers and various mechanical musical instruments. Wayne has
been rebuilding for 15 years. Along with doing major rebuilding, such
as bass bridge fabrication, he is a woodworker, machinist and technical
illustrator. He uses his skills to repair, rebuild, design (or redesign)
piano and player parts as well as documenting same. He is a certified
technician for Pianoforce (3 years) and QRS Pianomation (12 years).
He also designs, builds and installs MIDI player systems into player
pianos, harpsichords and various musical instruments. This keeps the
integrity of the original player system while also allowing the
instrument to play MIDI files.

One other thing that has changed in our business is that we have
started long-distance traveling to the customers' residences to service
their pianos. This year alone we have made trips to Montana, Nevada,
and Oregon as well as Northern California. This is cheaper for the
customer (not having to ship their piano to our shop) and it lets us do
a bit of traveling.

We encourage you to visit our web site: http://www.playertechs.com and
take a look at our portfolio (links are at the bottom of the Services Page).

Many thanks to the MMD and all of the great articles that have been
published through the years.
