URL Changes At My Web Sites
By Bob Taylor

During the restoration of my Aeolian pipe organ in 2005, the platform
I was standing on collapsed, giving me an unwanted journey to the floor
some ten feet below. My left foot took the brunt of the fall and three
small bones were broken. The healing process was simple: wear a "boot"
and keep the foot elevated. That meant I couldn't do anymore organ work
for a while. I was so thoroughly immersed in the pipe organ at the time
that I could think of nothing else. It was at that point I decided to
post a web site detailing the features of my historic pipe organ.

With my provider offering free web space of about 10 megabytes and my
slow dial-up modem, I posted a crude site jam packed with information.
That site still exists, but hasn't been updated in years.

In 2006 I upgraded my computer and my ISP so that I had high speed
cable. They too offered free web space and I posted a new site that
was more "upscale". Soon, that company rescinded their free hosting
deal and I could not post changes to my sites. Oddly, some of that
site remains.

Later I started using Apple's iDisk and my new sites there flourished.
With Apple's easy-to-use programs, my sites grew in content with
podcasts and many other features that I have maintained with
regularity. It is through those sites that most of you have found my
little piece of the web. Now, at the end of June, Apple will cease
hosting web sites, so once more I am forced to flee to other hosts.
Here is the root of that site:

  http://web.me.com/bobtaylor5/aeolian/Welcome.html

All is not lost. A few things I got right along the way in this
evolving Internet environment -- I still have my original email address
plus several others, and, most importantly, I have my own domain,
aeolianorgan.com.

Over a year ago, my Apple site was changed to host my web pages under
that domain name (in addition to the one above). This past weekend
I successfully moved my domain to another host and my sites hosted by
Apple now have a new home. There is no change in URL. The web.me.com
address will still work for a few more days. The moved site URL is

  http://www.aeolianorgan.com/aeolian/Welcome.html

Within this domain, all my stuff still resides. After the ".com/ "
in that URL, Ampico, Mason & Hamlin and other sub-addresses will take
you to various other sites that I maintain.

Check your bookmarks for my Aeolian, Ampico, Estey, Adam Carroll, Mason
& Hamlin, Ampico Greats, etc. If they have "web.me.com/bobtaylor5",
they will become inactive. Substitute "aeolianorgan.com" and it should
work.

I hope to "see" you on my sites soon.

[ Google offers a free service called "Google Sites"
 [ http://sites.google.com
[ which may be of some use. It does not support "complicated" websites,
[ but it is pretty easy to build a simple website and the amount of space
[ available is generous. I would be interested to know if any of our
[ readers have tried it. -- Jody
