File Format for Perforating Music Rolls

Hi y'all,  I'm doing a bit of research to find out what the perforator
firms "out there" are using for input when cutting reproducing or
88-note rolls.  Could it be some type of MIDI format or something
entirely different?  Please respond if you cut rolls for fun and/or
