Designing a Piano Roll Perforator System
By Piotr Barcz

I've been trying to figure out a good way to punch my own piano rolls
from PUNCHmidi files. I had contacted Julian Dyer a while back but
unfortunately I can not afford to pay $60 for 4 copies of the same
roll.

I decided that I will attempt to build my own piano roll perforator.
Here are a few design requirements that would need to be met with the
design of a punch:

- It must be able to punch at a pitch of 36 punches per inch.

- It must have a punch diameter of 1/16 of an inch or slightly smaller.

- Preferably it should have a small blade to cut the paper, on exit,
to optimal width.

- The operating program must have a function to terminate punching if
the roll has ending chords longer than desired.

- The paper advancing roller must be able to move freely when not
operating so that pulling paper through by hand can be done.

- The punch operating program must, by default, punch a re-roll hole
and hole 86 at end of roll.

If anyone has any design ideas or advice then please contact me at my
email address below. Also, if anyone knows where I can buy piano roll
cores and flanges then that information would be very useful as well.
(I found paper that might be usable.)

Thanks to anyone who can help!
