Re: Advertising in the MMD
By Colin Hinz

So the "problem" of advertising has surfaced again. Well, I don't feel
it's a problem at all as long as the ads aren't off-topic (don't let me
know about your used Toyota, in other words...)

I find *all* ads to be of interest, because at the very least, they
give me some idea of the value of an instrument (or rolls, or
whatever). Granted, regional differences exist, especially for the
heavy stuff, but it's nice to know anyways.

Ads selling recordings are especially welcome, since I've little chance
of owning more than one or two AMI/MMI's in my lifetime, and I don't
travel to see collections as much as I'd like. Even a so-so amateur
recording far beats nothin'.

On a related topic, I would like to see the directory of sources
expanded to include specific titles of books of interest, ESPECIALLY
those related to the design, maintenace and repair of instruments. The
entire public library system of the city of Toronto (pop. 2 million)
has essentially nothing on the subject. (They don't even have the
Bowers encyclopedia, something I had library access to when living in a
small town of pop. 25000.) Looks like I have to build up my own
library....
