Orchestrations, Rare Rags, Restoration
By Damon Atchison

ROLLS BEING TOO HEAVY¶
I recently obtained some 38 rolls from a person in Florida with a player
bench for $20. Now I have 58 rolls (regular size one-song 88 note rolls).
I tried making a pyramid on the top of the piano with the rolls, but it
was so large snow formed on the top. I was concerned about the weight on
the top of my piano. Now I have them all spread out in two rows one on
top of the other. Do I need to worry about rolls being too heavy for my
upright player to support?

[ No, just sweep off the snow occasionally ! ;-) -- Robbie ]

RARE RAG ROLLS¶
I have a roll called "Tickle the Ivories". It's a ragtime piece played by,
Walter H---er, the lable is torn. I was wondering if this is valuable or
if any or my rolls are. If anyone has the Billings Rollography, could you
tell me the name of a roll that starts with the words "When You Wore Wh---
---" in the title? (If anyone would like a list of my rolls I could send
it via E-Mail it's in Windows format.)

PIANO ORCHESTRATION¶
I'm thinking constantly about how to add about 3 instruments to my player
piano. I thought about Ampico valves to determine what key to play on
which instrument at what time, but that means ALL instruments must have
suction supply that's constant, so that would cause a strain on the
suction. SO, I thought if I had a lock and cancel valve to transfer the
suction to one instrument at a time it would prove less of a problem.
I'd devote 6 tracker bar holes to "on/off" signals, then have my Ampico
valve idea supply the selection of which instrument to give the signal too
determined by which instrument had the power at that part in the song.
The Ampico selection holes is where I'm stuck though. I'd need 6 holes at
BOTH ends of the tracker bar, which flirts with accidental on/off signals
on the roll, but those could be covered with tape! Does anyone
understand? I hope I was clear; it's difficult to be sometimes.

GLUE¶
Has anyone ever found powdered animal glue with a hot melting point at the
hardware store?

PIANO RESTORATION FOR THE AMATEUR¶
I've never restored a PIANO in the player piano itself, has anyone done
this by a book? I don't have $5,000 for a pro job.
