Orchestrions Built By Bernhard Dufner
By Mike Walter

Hi MMDers, Friday I made a short trip to Rochester, New York, and had
an education. It seems that an immigrant by the name of Bernhard Dufner
came to Buffalo, New York, in the late 1860s and went into the family
business(?) (in Germany) of making orchestrions. It is known that he
had made at least five of these beautiful instruments, but that, at
present, only one is known to have survived and is, I have been told,
in the collection of Bill Edgerton.

Does anyone else have a Dufner orchestrion, either large or small? It
might be nice to know if there are serial numbers, and how many he and
his workers made. It's a nice piece of Buffalo history, and musical
history, too, that should be preserved. Thanks very much!
