Lawrence "Piano Roll" Cook Phono Records
By Bryan Cather

I have one too, Rob. It was the first 78 I ever bought (fifty cents),
when I was about 10 or 12 years old. One side is "Dizzy Fingers", the
other side is "Your The One I Care For" (sic). From what I understand,
after Abbey's 78 of Cook's roll "The Old Piano Roll Blues made it into
the top 10 of the pop charts, they recorded several of his rolls.
I think they were also issued on 45's, but I've never seen one.

Several years ago I saw an old record storage album that someone had
once stored a number of these Cook records in, and had listed them on
the index provided for this purpose on the inside cover. Unfortunately,
all the records were gone...

My copy of "Dizzy Fingers" is an odd one, as the roll is listed in the
QRS catalog as being played by someone other than Cook (Victor Arden,
I think.) Apparently, Cook made rolls for his own personal use, and the
roll used on my record was one of these. At least that is the story
I got from QRS.

Several of my friends in the Texas Chapter of AMICA have extensive
record collections. I'll ask around.
