Possible Trade: Steinway ex- Duo-Art
By Gary Rasmussen

The private high school my wife teaches at was recently given a 6-foot
Steinway grand for use in their theater. I was surprised to note that
it was a gutted Duo-Art. I believe it is case is walnut, with moder-
ately plain double square taper legs. Within the past couple years,
the piano was completely refurbished with new strings, pins, hammers,
sounding board refinished, plate painted, and etc. I believe the work
was done by Kreifting Pianos in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The school intends to sent it out in a month or so to have it re-
finished in black ebony and make some changes to the piano such as
modifying the double legs so they will fit on a steel frame carrier to
easily move it around the school. They also want to install a keybed
lock and add a shorter grand lid post. It sounds like they plan to
spend $3000 to $5000 to do this.

To me, it seems to be somewhat a shame to butcher this nice, former
reproducer grand so that it is more easily used in a school situation.
Does a nice, gutted Steinway grand have any special value for any of
you MMD'ers out there? Do any of you have the 'guts' available to make
this back into a nice reproducer grand? All the school wants is nice
good-looking grand, for use in the theater, that is easily able to moved
around and locked. A trade could probably be negotiated. Please let
me know if anyone has any interest.
