PowerRoll & Poorly Maintained Pianos
By Andy Taylor

Hi Gang -- a correction to last article, just to clear things up a bit:

I wasn't inferring that there is something wrong with the PowerRoll
unit. It is just the fact that some player pianos out there might
not take the workout that such a machine is able to give them.

These pianos all come in various stages of conditions; some are able to
take a hour's worth of operation, some couldn't run for thirty minuets.

Hope this clears things up.

Best Regards
Andy Taylor

[ If a motor smells baked, then it _did_ overheat at some time in its
[ history. If this trauma created a shorted turn, the motor will
[ operate abnormally warm, but it may still survive with intermittent
[ use. It's just like the old car with the old radiator: don't drive
[ it on a long trip!

[ The motor in the Ampico at the AMICA convention may not have re-
[ ceived recent servicing. (See the article by Art Reblitz elsewhere
[ in this Digest.) Larry Broadmoore says that the three grand pianos
[ testing the PowerRoll units in his shop run continuously with no
[ motor problems; the pump motors were dismantled and serviced before
[ the testing began. -- Robbie
