How to Build a Custom Music Box

Re: Digest 98-10-07 and 98-10-09

Hello Thomas!

Yesterday I have suggested to take a comb from a Thorens/Reuge 4.5"
disc movement because of the universal balance of notes. I haven't
thought about the different damper system of the disc movement. The
comb needs dampers; I can't say if it's easy to complete the comb
with dampers to use the comb for a cylinder movement. May be it's not
as easy as I suggested yesterday. An other way to create an individual
tune is - to try it with a 4.5" Thorens/Reuge disc movement. May be
it's a little bit easier then to make a cylinder movement. Instead of
punching holes into a disc to create the downgoing hooks, I would try
to drill small holes and carry through small steel screws. The pike
of a screw should get a special treatment to get the right form.
