"Keen Kut-Ups" by Armand Muth
By John Farrell

Sylvia Bartz mentioned the Staffnote roll artist Armand Muth (a fine
New Orleans jazz pianist) which reminded me of an incident which took
place some years ago.

My good friend Frank Himpsl, an avid ragtime piano roll collector,
discovered a Staffnote roll of a raggy novelty piece -- "Keen Kut-Ups"
played by Armand Muth -- in the collection of a well-known but notori-
ously "difficult" ragtime personality. According to Frank the roll was
extremely rare, consequently he asked the owner for permission to recut
it which, as he predicted at the time, was refused for no apparent
reason. Frank and I got around the problem another way without
compromising our honour.

I wonder if any other MMDer has ever come across this roll?
