Cut Music Rolls With Laser Beam
By Fritz Gellerman

Re: 991230 MMDigest

Laser-perforated paper has of course been available for a long time for
computer printers. Specially perforated paper shapes are also available
for such things as business cards, door hangers, etc., so the
technology of burning holes in paper must be well-developed. It seems
that the problem before us would be one of adapting the existing
technology to the requirements of music roll perforation, and cost
reduction. If my memory hasn't totally failed there was also some
discussion here a year or two ago about using high pressure water jets
to perforate paper. That would certainly eliminate the fire problem.
