Thanks very much, John, for your experimental analysis.  Makes sense
to me, and I have plenty of cable ties around too.

Now the next question is:  Might we use the plastic drywall anchors
themselves?  These might be harder to remove later when a professional
job is desired.  And their own heads may interfere with the usual
flathead conical wood screw's head.  But it's such an obvious thing to
try, funny we didn't think of it before.

Again, not to be used where there's a chance of splitting the wood.
