World's Largest Floetenuhr/Flute Clock?
By Marcus Pregler

Hello to all,

As you may know, we have a small museum for mechanical music here in
Bavaria, Germany. We have been able to buy an extraordinarily large
flute clock (Floetenuhr). It is about 100" tall, 60" wide, and 30"
deep, made like a wardrobe. It has two glass doors in the upper two-
thirds of the cabinet. The wood is walnut-veneered pine. In the lower
third, there is storage space containing four pinned barrels.

The two doors each have half a circle cut out; if you close the doors,
it makes one circle, into which the clock is set. The clock itself has
a diameter of 17", typical Biedermeier style to match the cabinet.

Behind the doors are the music-producing elements: 48 keys, playing
about 100 pipes in four registers, from a fifth barrel. Everything is
made with the finest workmanship. We think that this flute clock was
made by Imhof & Mukle, around 1845-1850.

We want to highlight this instrument on our advertising material as the
biggest flute clock in the world, and therefore my question: Does
anybody know of any flute clocks which are as big as, or bigger than,
ours? We want to make sure that our musical treasure is as rare as we
think. We would be very glad to hear your opinion.

Thank you and best regards from the "Musikapparatemuseum Beilngries."

P.S. If you are travelling, we are always open by appointment to anybody
who loves music!
