Internet Auction Fraud
By Vickie Davis

More eBay fraud. A cylinder music box, listed as the maker of LeEpee,
just sold. A few days prior to the sale I had located the listing and
found that the tune sheet is a tune sheet that was for Palliard boxes,
right up to the PVF.

I sent an email to seller letting her know that she may have it
mis-listed and that due to LeEpee vs. Palliard may create a problem
for her buyers so she may want to check a little further. I cited my
reference books for her information. Of course (silly me!), I received
a nasty response that she knew she was right and besides the tune sheet
matched the tunes on box.

I then requested a better photo of the change lever and snail and the
bedplate picture because if indeed it was an LeEpee I did desire to
purchase but, truth be told, for my peace of mind I also needed to know
if that listing was accurate. My second email was ignored and the item
accordingly sold.

Do I report to eBay my concerns? Do I let buyer know? Do I continue
to ignore what are ever-increasing misleading and downright fraud
listings on eBay?

It once was a great source and Mr. Meekins is one the most trustworthy.
I sure wish it could be what it used to be. Is there a watchdog for
these auctions that I could volunteer for?

P.S.: I am passionate about mechanical music and seek help to maintain
integrity in transfer.
