I have tried a number of things including alphabetical by title and
categorized by genre then alphabetical by title.  This type of shelf
organization has not worked very well for me.  For the past three years
I have organized everything by roll type (i.e. Duo-Art or 88-note) then
number.  I have now printed a roll catalogue and it is sorted in three
ways:

1. Song title only,
2. Genre then by song title,
3. Author then by song title.

When I need a roll I use the catalog to find the number then go to the
shelf and find the roll.  It's like going to a library and looking up
a title in the card catalog and then finding the book on the shelf via
the Dewey Decimal System.  I used to work in a library and this is my
preferred method of sorting and organizing my collection.

I input all my roll info into a Microsoft Mail Merge file that I have
created and customized (very easy to do).  Different Microsoft programs
can then be used to filter and sort the info and print reports.  Works
great for me and since I use Mail Merge a lot anyway I did not have to
learn a new program and I can save it to a portable device and edit or
print it most anywhere there is a Microsoft computer.
