Roll-playing Theater Organs
By Bill Chapman

Perhaps the grand-daddy of all the roll playing theater organs was
the Wurlitzer at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Gardena, Calif., south
of Los Angeles. It played from a 15-inch roll or from a remote
console. The organ was intended to be heard outdoors, with no hall.
I was researching information about this organ for an article for
the AMICA Bulletin. However, in spite of initial encouragement from
the curator, I was denied access at a later date. I believe the
organ has been dismantled.
