Roll-playing Theater Organs
By Keith Reedman

In MMD 091224, Julian Dyer mentioned that the roll player on the
Wurlitzer at the Brentford Musical Museum was not original to that
instrument. The player attachment originally formed part of the
two-manual Wurlitzer at the private theatre at Stanford Hall,
Nottinghamshire, and was released by Frank Holland on one of his
collecting forays. The Stanford Hall organ survives in good order
for manual operation only. Whether or not the roll player with it
would have survived without Frank's intervention is conjectural, but
unlikely.
