Testing Pouch Leather

I wonder why pipe organ pouches have never been sealed with mink
oil.  If you buy your leather from reputable supply houses sealing
is not required.  To see if it is required just put the leather
against a 1-1/4" pipe or nipple and suck.  If it allows air through
find another supplier.
