I don't know if Jack Conway has had any replies yet, but here is my
input. I restored a Nelson-Wiggen 4X a few years ago and I am pretty
certain that it was all original. The drum has a wooden hoop held on
by chrome plated clamps. The front is a U-shaped piece that clips
over the hoop and at the back there are wing nuts for tension.

The diameter of the head itself is 12 inches. There is only the front
head, the back is open. The beater is a single beater mounted to the
board above the drum. The snares are mounted against the inside of
the head and there is a rectangular damper which presses against the
snares. There is a pneumatic inside the drum which lifts the damper
away from the snares when the roll calls for it.
