Nelson-Wiggen Ball Bearing Accumulator
By Jim Quashnock

A few years back I restored a Nelson-Wiggen Style 6T orchestrion of
circa 1928. It has an unusual accumulator. I never did research it,
so I am doing that now.

Unlike most accumulator which use a stepper wheel, this one uses small
ball bearings. Every time a coin is dropped in, a small ball bearing
is pushed from a storage tube into the accumulator (play count) tube.
At the end of each tune selection, a ball bearing will be pushed out of
the accumulator tube. When the tube is empty, the instrument shuts off.

I have never seen another accumulator like this. Has anyone else?
Is this a correct one for Nelson-Wiggen, or was it robbed from another
instrument?
