Douglas Mahr was questioning the striker span distance on a previously
rebuilt piano.  I always start with 1-1/4-inch and then check the
pneumatic when it is folded.  The middle of the folded crease should
not be touching.  I have had to redo a lot of screw-ups in this area so
this is a good way to figure it out.  I'm rebuilding a two-tier stack
right now and the pneumatics are very small.  The distance is only 1
inch.

My main problems are usually with the windmotor.  If the span is not
big enough then the motor will bind and you have to shim the finger
to decrease the expanse, or do it all over again, so now I always check
a previously rebuilt windmotor for the correct width of cloth.

Unfortunately most of the players that are coming in right now are
previously rebuilt.  It is so nice to find one untouched by white glue.
