Long-Play Ampico Rolls Sometimes Stop Moving
By George Wilder

Here's an odd one for folks to ponder. I've got a Marshall & Wendell
Ampico A piano and occasionally on some rolls the roll just stops
moving. It feels like the take-up spool is still trying to turn but
some sort of brake is holding the roll. It will stop for 10-15 seconds
and then resume normal play. I'd say that this happens between 1/2 to
2/3 of the way through the roll.

It's really intermittent and if I let the roll finish and then replay
it may not do it. I have noticed the problem is only on the long
recut rolls and not on long original rolls.
