Unknown Tunes on 55-Note 8-Tune Musical Box
By Kenneth Christ

I've posted a recording I made of our 55-tooth, 8-tune music box that
has been in our family for many years. I'd really appreciate the help
of all the knowledgeable people here to name the tunes in the video at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkXXItTbRZg
Attachment thumbnail I also added some close-ups and details of the box, at least as I've been able to figure out. I'm really curious about the mechanism I show at 10:43 in the video. I can't figure that one out, and have not come across any descriptions of this in any of the reading I've done. As to the tunes, I know the first tune is "The Washington Post March" (1889), and another YouTuber just identified tune 2 as "The Honeysuckle And The Bee" by Albert H. Fitz and William H. Penn, 1901. I'm also wondering about having this (partially?) re-conditioned. It seems to work very well, with only one tooth-tip broken. I assume the dampers need work, and I hear little squeaks and squawks in places. I've straightened some pins; some apparently are broken off, but a fairly small number I think. If I remove the comb, can it be sent in for repair, or does the restorer need the whole box for this? The cylinder also seems to run fast now: each rotation is approximately 30 seconds. If you agree this is too fast, have you any tips on how I can regulate the speed better? I feel a bit more confident in working on this now that I have it recorded for 'posterity'. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions. I've been having fun reading the postings here over the past few weeks. Ken Christ
