Flap Valve Leather for Duo-Art Exhausters
By Daniel Bussell

Hello, I have been purchasing my leather from Columbia Organ Leathers
and I'm not sure what to use for the flap valves on duo-art pumps.
I've been trying to answer this through the MMD Archives to no avail.
I've watched Mr. Brougher's video on rebuilding Ampico exhausters and
he gives some info but I'm wondering if anyone is buying from Columbia
and what product of theirs are you using for this purpose? I also am
not sure if all the facts in the video are up to date with current
available leathers.

I have used what Columbia sells as flap valve leather for pedal type
exhausters, but it is very stiff and has an almost patent leather grain
side with a lovely suede side. It works great for that purpose but
it's not well suited for the electric motor driven variety, in my
opinion. Thanks to all, passing down knowledge of these great
instruments keeps the trade alive!
