Suggested Piano Roll Tempo
By Bob Loesch

In 161011 MMDigest Tom Sendall wrote about the suggested Tempo
printed on the piano roll leader:

> Are these extraordinary numbers just mistakes of printing?

I believe that the printed speed is what the roll manufacturer felt
was appropriate on _his_ piano! Many classical pieces are given speeds
that are much too slow or too fast, because those pieces are not so
well known, and even the transcriber might not have known a particular
piece.

My "method" is to start a roll at the printed suggestion, and adjust
as needed to get a pleasing performance. It's all about enjoyment!
