I have used photo editing software several times to scan box ends
with "better" labels, which I then edit to make new labels for rolls
by the same manufacturer. I have also used the included tools to create
a new label when I only had a single degraded one by a manufacturer.

You then use any paper you like and the glue of your choice for the
label, or you can use any of the many choices of printable sticker
paper that are available.

Photoshop, the big name in photo editing, is _not_ free, but Paint.NET
is. It is almost as powerful as Photoshop, and I use it often even
though I also have Photoshop. Paint.NET is _not_ the same program as
"Paint" which comes on many Windows machines and is nowhere near as
good! It is available at http://www.getpaint.net/ and they do keep it
updated.

Having taken a scan or photo of a label you want to copy or edit, you
can delete all the title info and use the text tool to insert another
title, pianist, composer, etc. If you expect to do more than one of
a type of label, I would suggest saving the blank label (or a page full
of them) in a file so you can just go in and add text for each new
label.
