Nos 729 à 742: 14 good modern automata by Marie Madeleine KAËPPELIN
Marie Madeleine KAËPPELIN has created automata as soon as when she was 15, and mainly in the years 1970/80.
The antiques specialized journal " L'Estampille ", June 1975, has dedicated a long and excellent article to her work. She is also mentionned pages 76 and 77 in the book " Les Automates ", by Jean BEDEL (Ed. " A.B.C. Décor ", 1987).
At that time, she changed her artistic automata creation activity for personal reasons, corresponding to a very serious change in her life.
Pierre MATISSE, son of Henri, who holds a gallery in New York City, was one of her clients.
May we propose an extract of the article from the " l'Estampille " Journal : " Marie-Madeleine KAËPPELIN goes on with the tradition, but does not try to imitate her famous predecessors : her automata have a very personnal touch. She does not pretend to be a mechanics nor an ingeneer. She is first an artist, with poetical and satirical mind.
