"Here is now a picture by X. Tharin, in Paris, ca 1840. It is (fig. 159) a painting ca 30 cm x 20 cm, so rather small, in a monumental frame, in a rather mixed style, in which is inscribed a clock with hour striking.
The landscape is well designed, with excellent proportions, and very luminous. Under a large Southern sky rises a church perched on a hill : it is an evocation of some small Adriatic harbours, with their houses built in tiers on the hill. A large sailing ship anchored in the bay.
In the foreground, some fortifications in front of which various ships move, cross and pass one another, some sailing, some steaming, and even a gondola with its canopy. This scene can revolve for several hours. There is also a musical movement.
The clock which shows the above mentioned signature, is independent from the movements of the ships".

Nº 601: An exceptional and spectacular parlour organ, said "by Laprevotte", with 7 cylinders, 5 stops and 32 keys Very fine piece of furniture in the shape of a large desk, Louis XVIth style, with 4 mock drawers in the lower part, which houses 6 cylinders which can be taken out through a side left door. Width 1,13, depth 0,57, height 1,43 m. Veneered in two colors fruitwood. Fine handle in inverted C shape.

The upper sloped lid presents inside : in the center a painting depicting three cherubs eating grapes and drinking wine in a countryside scenery, and on each side the beautifully handwritten listing of the tunes for eight 91 cm cylinders (one missing). The middle desk flap features an inlay checkerboard. Inside, 5 stops at will of 32 metal pipes each (opened, but stopped for the bass notes). Very fine wooden keyframe inlaid with brass. The black keys are heightened with mother of pearl. The bellows (in brown leather, restored) are hidden by a blue canvas painted with flowers, which answers to the blue painting inside the organ.

The tunes (ouverture du Calife de Bagdad, 1800) give for this organ a building date of the very beginning of the XIXth c., even if one or two cylinders may have been renoted later. The cylinders, in good condition (very small cracks on some) are inscribed in handwriting : "Laprévotte, facteur d'orgues et de serinettes à Rouvres ? près de Mirecourt, dépt des Vosges". We do not know if Laprevotte made or only restored or resold this instrument.

This organ, its history and the story of its good restoration, are described by the owner Claude Marchal, founder of the AAIMM, the French collector's association, in the AAIMM journal, 2e semestre 1977, page 126, where a listing of the tunes may also be found. To find again the original registration and replace damaged pipes, 88 (on 160) have been rebuilt in the 1970's. The whole instrument is nevertheless exceptional thanks to its presentation, quality, choice of tunes and playing.
