Monkey Violinist by Phalibois
Monkey Violinist Automaton by Phalibois
San Jose History Museum, San Jose, California
courtesy Marc Kaufman

monkey87a.JPG (60kb)The Monkey Violinist is evidently by Phalibois, ca. 1880.  The music plays well, and there are two motions: the head and arm move.  I couldn't tell if the mouth should move, but I believe the eyes should.

Unfortunately, the piece is exhibited on a table in a dimly lit room, far from the viewers, and it is never played for visitors.  I'm going to try to borrow it to exhibit at the 2000 MBSI convention in San Jose.
