I too share an interest in this topic, and have often yearned for a special publication containing an array of photos and descriptions of art case pianos. Over the past 25 years, while visiting many open houses following AMICA Conventions, I have photographed many such instruments, but did not at the time document the owner's description of the case style. (.... Grow too soon old, and too late schmart. :-)

Back in 1980, somebody gave me a poor photocopy of an article "The Esthetics of the Piano Case", by Eugene Ward, in a publication called Werner's Magazine. While several grand styles are illustrated, the article tends to focus on upright art case styles. I've never heard of the magazine, and other than a handwritten '1980', it is not dated. By image, language and document style, I inclined to think the article may have been published in the 20's. I would be pleased to make the document available, although the illustrations in it are so poor, they cannot be successfully duplicated. Robin, you interested?

Terry
