Band Organ Sounds, etc.

The Proteus 2 synthesizer on our Wicks organ is geared primarily to orchestral sounds. As such, it does a good job supplementing the organ, especially with solo stops, chimes, harpsichord, etc. While we haven't done a great deal of experimenting with it, we wouldn't be too optimistic about getting the sound of a 17th century tracker or Wurlitzer 165 or Ruth 92 out of it. The organ sampling on the Proteus 2 is very "electronic" in sound as opposed to sampling of true pipe organ sounds.
Again, time (i.e., the need to prepare for Sunday services) has precluded doing very much experimenting with the Proteus 2 voices in the context of band organs. EMU makes several other models in the Proteus line, some of which may do a better job for band organ music.
We have put some Sousa marches into the thing; using the "Chapel Organ" on the Proteus with some of the brass ( a particularly good trumpet and trombone setting) and wood-wind ensemble against a rather generous use of the "toy shelf" stuff does get the folks' toes tapping.
This probably wasn't a great deal of technical help; would be interested in others' experiences. One constraint we have is the Brother PDC100 sequencer. Wish we had Roland equipment or something compatible with other equipment.
