From time to time I make editing adjustments to submissions that are
received here before sending them out. I try to produce articles in
a consistent formatting style that will print correctly on an 80 column
printer with fixed width characters (such as a teletype). There are too
many different mail viewing programs out there to assume anything more
complicated. The 80 column fixed-pitch font theory of editing doesn't
look optimum on some mail viewers (for instance viewing 80 column mail
via AOL on a small-screen Mac Classic looks AWFUL). However it seems
to be the best compromise at this time.
Most of the time I run the Unix spell checker. Although I try to be
careful, I'm sure that once in a while I add, rather than take away a
spelling error.
To those submitting articles: My apologies if I altered the intent
of something by reformatting your article or adjusting the spellings
of words.
To those reading articles: If an article looks funny on your screen
or has some peculiar spellings, please don't assume that the sender
is illiterate. I may have caused the problem!
Thanks to everyone for all the great articles.
