Thanks for your response. I dimly recall that the original owner of the piano mentioned John McCormack having performed for the system, so you're right on the mark. BTW we purchased the piano from the 80 year old original owners in 1972 -- before I had a driver's license! Unfortunately, the owner had long sold all the rolls.
The case has two curved wooden bays extending forward from the top front board of the piano. These bays are symetrically paired on either side of the roll door. The right side is ornamental only, but the left side opens to reveal the phonograph. The unit is quite compact, about the size of a suitcase phono mechanism with the turntable horizontal and the platter neatly designed to fit into the wooden bay. The sound horn curves up to the top of the roll frame. There is no connection between the phonograph spring motor and the roll spring motor so lining up the record and a roll must have been a difficult job.
Funny that Yamaha and QRS would find a digital method to reintroduce a very old idea.
