Re: Digital Watermarks
By Stephen Kent Goodman

I'd like to know as well if this program really works. I'll be contacting the company for detailed (as much as they dare provide) info. In the meantime, ASCAP is trying a variey of methods, none of which are fool proof. My bottom line is never to release anything that I don't expect a nickel for on the 'net. My concern is for the sale of unauthorized printouts of scor and parts, which ARE traceable and constitute prosecutable (c) infractions. The same is true with a one-time sale of a music roll. The numbers I have authorized "released" to this and the ragtime group are for their own enjoyment on their own players, but somehow I feel that sooner or later one or more of the numbers will wind up in some software company's product! When and if that happens, then I have my original (c) in registered form, which pre-dates their use of it. In a court, I would theoretically (optimistically) prevail. Truth is, if someone wants to steal it once it's "out on the net", there is little anyone can do this point to prevent it or to enforce (c) laws. Any comments?
