Gulbransen Restoration
By George Bovard, forwarded by Robbie Rhodes

[ Editor's Note: Here Robbie shares with us a message he received

[ comments yesterday about tall uprights with large harps
[ and soundboards...

Hey, thanks for the positive thoughts. Yes, we are excited about the big ole Gulbransen, too. We still think it sounds good, and I checked out that crack a little better. It doesn't go all the way through. Can something like that be welded? I realize that it would require a lot of work, and wouldn't be worth it now, but if I put a lot into restoring this old beast and then it cracked through it would be worth some effort then. Yes, I noticed that the sound from the baby grand wasn't as nice as I had expected.

I just received a catalog from the "Player Piano co." in KS. Neat stuff. I was glad to see so much Gulbransen stuff, including a complete kit for $300. I need to find out what all that included, but it sounds like a good way to go. And yes, I already bought Art's book.

Well, thanks again,

George
