Organette Reeds
By Rocci Cirone

I just picked up an old organette (Mechanical Orguinette Co - aka
Aeolian) about a month ago, and since have fully restored the mechanism
and box - with one exception. One note still refuses to play
correctly. There is a sizable delay between the time when the vacuum
is first applied to the metal reed and when it starts vibrating. A
good deal of paper had to be cleaned out of this particular reed, and
I'm afraid the metal "bar" got deformed a bit in the process. So...
this is my question: Anyone on this list have any or know of any metal
reeds (can't remember off hand what note it its...) for sale? If tried
to bend it a bit to match the gap and such of the other reeds in the
unit and that didn't help. I also am almost positive that the problem
is not caused by something else wrong in the mechanism.

Also... does anyone know the value of such an orguinette? I've
figured the manufacture year to be around the early 1880's, and it's in
great condition (with the exception of that pesky note...)
