Re: Wire Size Calculations
By Fritz Gellerman

Terry Smythe asked about determining wire sizes for piano restringing. I have a book by John W. Travis, "A Guide to Restringing" which has the whole story, including equations for determining string length, tension and pitch, as well as a list of scales for most pianos. It has three scales for Krakauer upright pianos, but no Krakauer grands. Some years ago, B.P.C., (before PCs) I wrote a program for my TI-52 programmable calculator to help calculate piano scales, which I used to restring an H.C. Bay player. It would be no trick to do the program on a PC, given the equations. If you like I could FAX or snail mail you the relevant pages.
