Regarding the new Ampico expression springs now sold by Player Piano
Co, I do not know what the part number is. They may not have been given
one, yet. But if you tell them what you want, they will have it. Not to
worry-- just tell him what you want and fork over --$9, I think.
By the way, I just got a preview of the newly coded Ampico B roll
for the convention when Bob Taylor was in town. I can honestly say I
have never heard anything else even remotely similar on any reproducer,
and suggest that anyone who has an Ampico B should definitely have that
roll. The copies will all sound exactly like the "master" which I
heard. It is truly fantastic what these instruments can do when given a
chance with the coding techniques used by Bob. I would hope that the
selection of reproducers used for the convention this year will be
thoroughly restored. If they belong to Bob, I know they will be. At
times, I have been disappointed, especially the year I heard a Yamaha
electric outplay and out-express a pneumatic reproducer! Not that I do
not enjoy them, too, but the difference should be three more levels
each of pianissimo and forte. Embarrassing.
