I've heard lots of different things about glues. I'd like a glue pot soon,
meaning: I don't have time to go garage sailing (to use a friend's
phrase), so how much does a new hot glue pot cost in a hardware store?
I tried to find some hot glue in Home Depot (one of those mega-stores that
sell everything hardware) and I had to ask where it was and typically I
was handed the response, "Uh ... I .... Uh, We don't have anything like
that, ... er, ... The glue guns are in the tool isle."
I wasn't too happy. I'm planning just to get the one pound bag from the
Player Piano Co. in KS. I did find shellac, though, in a can pre-mixed
with alcohol which I bought. I couldn't find the crystals in a bag
though.
I was thinking too, about using cellophane as a pouch board leather
substitute, not for anything important, just for a model valve I'm
building. It would be for an experiment.
Has anyone ever put oversized pins in a piano pinblock to save time and
money instead of replacing the whole block? I don't want to use Pin-Tite
or any other shortcuts, I want to do this right, except for this pinblock
which I don't want to take apart.
What about separate valves too on an orchestration to a player piano?
I think separate valves would be easier to maintain and assemble, plus,
they could be portable! You could mount each one in a different location
on the piano.
Are mandolin bars damaging to your piano in any way? I wouldn't want to
shorten the life of it if I rebuild the piano.
