RE: Tracker Bar Suction Pump
By Rob DeLand

Rick, I have 2 or 3 of those pumps. If the rubber tip is supple you shouldn't have to lubricate anything; if it's hard it probably needs to be replaced (anybody know?). I don't remember having any instruction sheets, but I'll look and post info if I find it. One of mine is in an Ampico box and I know it has some illustrations & directions on the box.

I pump it as vigorously as I can, 2 or 3 pulls/sec. as I slowly move the tip across the tracker bar, my goal being to have the thing centered over each hole for a couple of strokes. You'll end up shaking the entire piano this way!

When you're done you should unscrew the tip & empty out the paper dust, and you'll probably have a teaspoonful or so if you play rolls regularly and clean the tracker every month or so.

While you're at it, get some Brasso or Nev-r-dull cleaning cloth (same stuff!) and polish up your tracker bar when you're done. You might as well be thorough and get in a good habit about cleaning.

That's been my experience, anyway. I love those things -- they work great!
