The Old Glue Book

I was working with hot glue for the first time in my kitchen and it made me sick, dizzy, plus I had a headache. Is hide glue harmful?
I know a library that is sure to have that old book about hot glue from the 'teens: the Library of Congress! I wrote there for some old Scott Joplin sheet music and got 6 songs photocopied from the original sheet music free and delivered by mail. The only problem was it took three months.
