LP "Dutch Band Organ"
By Jan Kijlstra

[ Editor's note:
 [
[ In digest 97.03.13 Doug Maulden mentioned a LP recording of
 [ a Dutch Band Organ.

Doug

I did ask the documentalist, mr. Schenk, of the "Kring van Draaiorgel-
vrienden" (KDV) about your record.

He did send me a kind letter, witch I do translate below. I hope
this is the information you were looking for?

Dear mister Kijlstra

In reply to your letter from 97-03-20 I'm able to inform you with
the following:

> The organ on the record is "De Duif" (The Dove). This organ was build
> by the Belgian builder Decap from Antwerp, and was modified by Carl
> Frei Sr. in the thirties, into his 72-key system.
>
> This organ was used to produce a long-play record, titled "Dutch Band
> Organ". The picture on the cover was made (a photo) at Amsterdam in
> spring 1960. The music was recorded at February 8 1960.
>
> At that time the organ was owned by Henk Moehlmann ("oe=0 with
> Umlaut"), one of the major organ-rental companies in Amsterdam.
> Moehlman was not the builder, but it was common practice that rental
> companies did put their name on their organs; just like Perlee, van
> Jaaren, Holvoet, Denies, Gossing, a.s.o: they all did rent organs, but
> none of them did build organs.

Happier now ;->?

Jan
