Visiting North Tonawanda
By Ron Bopp

No. Tonawanda is a great place to visit, especially if you are mildly
interested in mechanical music. When at the Wurlitzer factory, go behind
it and see the original deKleist building (known as the "white
building"); deKleist sold out to Wurlitzer as of 1/1/09.

The Artizan Factories building is still present; The North Tonawanda
Musical Instrument Works building is still present, even with "Organs and
Orchestrions" at the top in faint, faded paint.

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is there with a Wurlitzer 125 band
organ on location as well as Wurlitzer's #11 and #12 perforators for
their rolls.

The Historical Society of the Tonawandas is interesting as it has some
artifacts of the Band Organ/Nickel Piano days.

The North Tonawanda public library has all the old newspapers on
microfilm and there is a bunch of info there on the "good ole days".

Other than that it is a pretty boring town.

[ I like that type of boring stuff, though! ;-) -- Robbie
