Band Organ Crankshaft Speed
By Bill Finch

So, as I started to demo the 146 band organ to my grandson's girlfriend
the motor went up in smoke -- literally. It was a two-speed washing
machine type motor driving the crank pulley with intermediate pulley
reduction. I believe that the motor ran at 1200 rpm, reduced to about 75
rpm at the crankshaft. I will probably replace the motor with a gear
reduction motor and drive the crank directly.

Do any of you band organ experts out there know what rpm (range?)
Wurlitzer intended for band organ crank speeds? Just listening to
rattling pump-sticks in my head I keep coming up with about 70 to 90 RPM
for band organs I know. I don't have another organ handy at the moment
so if anyone knows or cares to time the rotation of their Wurlitzer crank
please let me know. Thanks!

Bill Finch
