Mark Van Essen
By John Van Essen

Flood Update. On Monday, residents were allowed back into Mark's East
Grand Forks neighborhood for 4 hours, so he drove up from Brainerd to
check things out and to clean out his refrigerator and grab some clothes.

Although the neighbors across the street (next to the river) had two feet
of water on their first floors, there was enough slope going across the
street up to Mark's house that the water came up to within an inch of the
first floor (judging from the high-water line in the basement stairway)
but no higher. 8-D

So his first floor remained dry -- the player pianos and the rolls and the
spare parts, etc., are all OK! A huge relief! :-D x 1000

The garage and the basement are a mess, but the major things that he
cared about all survived without damage.

This will be the last update from me, as we now know the extent of the
damage, and his Mechanical Music stuff was unaffected. I'll still reply
to any questions anyone may have, though.

And thank you to Beatrice for her kind words of support. :)
